Thinking ‘I Want’ Will Improve Yourself And Others
The “I must” line of thinking almost forces our body to comply with our thoughts.
However, we can change our unwanted habits and compulsions by simply thinking “I want”. This approach gets head, heart and body to agree on a course of action. The power arising from these three forces coming together makes it a whole lot easier to change our behavioral patterns.
The mantra “I mustn’t be late” never works. You are being too harsh and negative. And when we are forced to do something, we rebel and invariably end up doing the very thing we say we mustn’t do.
Not much better is “I must be early”. Our actions and free will are still enroached upon and so again it’s unlikely to be effective.
The reason being that our thought processes work something like this… I mustn’t be late because I will get a scolding, or I may have a fine imposed on me, or they will put a black mark on my record book or they may not allow me to enter the room.
A better line of approach would be “I want to be punctual”. Not only is it more gentle, it is also something positive to aim for.
This works using the following reasoning… I want to be on time because I am respectful of other people and their time. Should everyone arrive on time, then we won’t finish late, we can get on with the rest of our day without delay and we can all be back at home in good time.
They key is to focus on the positives of doing something rather than trying to avoid the negatives of not doing it.
By acting and speaking in such a way, those around us appreciate us and find themselves mimicking our behavior. As such, by changing yourself for the better, you can also trigger positive actions and attitudes in other people. You should see this as great motivation.
Ultimately, by being more self aware, you are able to achieve more of the things that you want to achieve.
I came across the law of attraction a few years ago and gaining an understanding of it has greatly improved my life. I created a website on it and included my own mind movies, which you can find here.
